Flight Companion is an app for your Android phone or tablet that is used with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 to display the most frequently used information to the pilot:

  • Detailed maps from Google, with the ability to move and zoom

Installation

Installation on the PC

  1. Download the Flight Companion Helper application here
  2. Run the installer
    3. NOTE: The Microsoft Edge browser and Microsoft Defender SmartScreen may report that the file may not be safe.
      Microsoft Edge/SmartScreen Warning
    The installer and the application are safe, but if you are still concerned, you can scan the installer .exe file with your antivirus software before running it.
    To do this using Microsoft Defender with Windows 11 (other antivirus programs work in similar ways):
    1. Run File Explorer
    2. Navigate to the location you downloaded the installer
    3. Right click on the FlightCompanion-x.x.x.x.exe file
    4. Choose "Show more options"
    5. Choose "Scan with Microsoft Defender..."
  3. Once installed, run the helper application (Flight Companion Helper)
  4. Choose the IP address of the PC from the drop-down box

Installation on the Android Tablet or Phone

  1. Install Flight Companion from Google Play
  2. Run Flight Companion
  3. Click "Settings"
  4. Next to "Sim IP Address", enter the same IP address that you selected in the Flight Companion Helper application
  5. Tap the "Update" button
  6. Tap the "Display Map" button to view the map and details screen
  7. Enjoy the flight!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • In the PC helper app, look for any helpful error messages
  • Verify both the Android device and the PC running MSFS are connected to the same network
  • In the PC helper app, verify the IP address you've selected is on the same network that your Android device is connected to
  • On the PC, verify the Windows Firewall (or a third-party firewall) is not blocking TCP traffic on port 13000 (or the port you're using)
  • Verify both the PC and the Android device are specifying the same IP address and port
  • On the Android app's main screen, tap "Settings" and tap one of the "Update" buttons. This will attempt a new connection to the PC

  • No. Flight Companion only displays information about your plane and the simulation. You control it all through MSFS 2020 as usual

  • The latest Flight Companion Android app is version 1.20
